Welcome
Welcome to the website of the Suffolk Ramblers. We have about 1600 members in Suffolk at present and we work mostly through our local
groups.
The local Ramblers groups provide a very varied programme of walks and any member of the public is welcome to join us on our walks. (Although our walks are intended primarily for Ramblers members we are delighted to welcome non-members to come along as our guests for up to three "taster walks" before needing to join Ramblers). We are also active in several other ways:
- Reporting any problems that we encounter when using public rights of way to the appropriate authority. This work is largely carried out by our team of local footpaths secretaries.
- Giving the RA's view on proposed alterations to the local rights of way network. This is done by our local footpath secretary team in consultation with local group representatives.The work of the local footpaths secretaries team is coordinated by the Area Footpaths Secretary.
- Making applications to the County Council for the addition of unrecorded public rights of way to the Council's Definitive Map and liaising with the County Council regarding the progress of claims and the correction of errors on the Map. This task is the responsibility of the Area Footpaths Secretary.
- Working to ensure that all Suffolk's areas of `open country' are included on the access maps and making representations about omissions, closures, restrictions etc. The Area Access Officer co-ordinates this activity.
- Monitoring planning applications and development proposals which may have undesirable consequences for public rights of way or the Suffolk countryside and making representations and objections when necessary. Local groups cooperate with the local footpath secretaries team in doing this.
- Campaigning for a range of RA aims and objectives - both local and national - and lobbying officers and members of the appropriate authorities about these issues.
- Writing walk descriptions for books, newspapers etc.
